TPG Geneva

Q&A with Guillaume Meyer, Chief Information Officer of TPG.

Geneva, Switzerland

TPG (Transports Publics Genevois, Switzerland) is a Transport operator in the second largest city of Switzerland. The city lies at the south-western tip of French-speaking Switzerland (Romandie) in the Lake Geneva region at the outlet of the Rhone from Lake Geneva.

TPG has been working with iris sensors since 2007. In 2012 the first IRMA MATRIX sensors were installed in vehicles.

The entire TPG fleet of over 600 vehicles, consisting of buses, trolley buses and trams, is equipped with the iris system for Automatic Passenger Counting (APC), about 20% of them with IRMA MATRIX technology.

12 of the 20 % are TOSA full electric articulated buses.

The TOSA concept and test bus is a full large capacity urban battery electric bus system.

(TOSA stands for Transports Publics Genevois, Office de la Promotion Industrielle, Services Industriels de Genève and ABB Group, the four partners of the demonstrator project TOSA2013)

A: Guillaume Meyer Q: iris

Q: What were and are your most important requirements for the counting system?

A: Reliability, accuracy and user’s friendly maintainability are of prime importance to us.

Q: In your opinion, what are the biggest advantages of IRMA sensors?

A: Thanks to IRMA MATRIX technology, the latest TOSA fleet finally has additional valuable comfort features such as "DoorClear". Second: the retro and forward compatibility and expandability of different IRMA generations with our existing onboard AVL architecture is a real asset.

Q: Tell us a few words about the cooperation.

A: Since its beginnings more than 10 years ago, iris has closely accompanied us in our various projects, both in the bus and rail sectors. Iris knows our environment and the context of the operation of vehicles and on-board electronic systems, which makes on-board system relationships and performance effective, both for TPG's own fleet and for our operational subcontractors.
